Ph.D. in Life Sciences

Overview

The CLS has launched Ph.D. programme in Biotechnology and Computational Biology in Fall-2023. The award of Ph.D. degree shall be in recognition of high academic achievements, independent research and application of knowledge to the technical and scientific problems. Creative and productive enquiry shall be the basic concept underlying the research work. Ph.D. programme involves specified course work and credit requirements, publications and a research thesis as per University ordinances.

The thesis shall be the report of research work characterized by either discovery of new facts or a new interpretation of known facts and theory, or an independent design and development, or development of new instrument/technology. The Ph.D. graduates are expected to achieve following outcomes after the completion of degree:

  • Advanced Knowledge: Ph.D. students will have to be able to apply advanced knowledge in specialized areas defined by their research committee

  • Methods: Ph.D. students will have and be able to apply skills in appropriate methods of analysis, whether quantitative or qualitative, or both, to collect and integrate information in ways consistent with the highest standards of their discipline

  • Research: Ph.D. students will conduct research that results in an original contribution to knowledge, according to the standards of their discipline, including both the independent and collaborative research, and in conformity with all standards for responsible conduct of research

  • Pedagogy: Ph.D. students will participate in training for teaching and apply their skills in the classroom consistent with their disciplinary norms, in undergraduate programmes

  • Communication: Ph.D. students will have and apply skills in scholarly communication, applied in oral, text, and digital formats consistent with the highest standards of their discipline

  • Professionalism: Ph.D. students will engage with the structure of their discipline and their intended career placement as professions, including the legal and ethical dimensions of these professions and the responsibilities involved to a variety of stakeholders

Eligibility

Master (or four-year bachelor’s degree) in any field of Life Sciences/Biology/Biotechnology/​Nanobiotechnology/​Chemistry/​Bioinformatics, etc.

University Fellowship

University will provide a fellowship of Rs. 30,000 per month plus free lodging and boarding on the campus.
