M. Tech in Computer Aided Structural Engineering Program

Overview

Vision

To integrate strengths of Computer Science into Structural Engineering for providing robust, accurate, fast, economical and sustainable solutions for the current and future challenges.

Why CASE @Mahindra University

Program gives in-depth knowledge of mathematical modeling and computational methods in the areas of non-linear, static and dynamic analysis of structures.
CASE @Mahindra University integrates analytical and programming skills for solving complex design and analysis problems posed by various materials and structures.

Convergence of AI and Structural Engineering

  • 3-D printing homes, AI-assisted construction, and prefabrication of concrete building components known as precast.

  • Monitoring structural problems like moisture intrusion, corrosion, settlement and deficiencies.

  • In SHM, useful in recognizing old and new cracks in construction vibration cases by categorizing images and diagnosing a structure with a problem the way doctors diagnose patients with disorders/diseases.

  • BIM Modeling (BIM) environment enhancing the construction experience from design to demolition, AI will complement the other technologies used in building structures. This will optimize the design-build process by reducing delays and speeding up time to fix issues that come up on a job site daily. AI’s role could range from managing construction projects to actually building or repairing the structures themselves. In other words, BIM is going to serve as the data sets for AI to perform it’s duties.

Core strengths

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs):

01

To develop analytical, computational and programming skills required to analyze, design and provide sustainable solutions for infrastructure issues encountered in new and ageing civil structures.

02

To equip the required skills in the students to help them to become a design consultant, entrepreneur or pursue research in the relevant field.

03

To expose students to the state-of-the-art technological and sustainable solutions using AI and BIM for monitoring, repairs, retrofitting and extensive use of 3D printing technology and IoT so as to prepare the students to face the challenges of 21st century, for example, smart structures, smart cities, etc.

Program Education Objectives (PEOs)

  • To provide proficiency in basic and advanced principles of Structural Engineering so that students are able to formulate, analyze and deliver technical solutions to the civil infrastructural related problems for sustainable built environment.

  • To expose students to the latest innovations and futuristic technology trends so as to inculcate strong research orientation to applications in Structural Engineering.

  • To produce Structural Engineers who can integrate, build and develop the program’s core curricula concepts as take ways in the pursuit of professional leadership, teamwork, life-long learning, and successful career progression.
