Less than a month after conducting training sessions for delegates from South Africa, School of Media Dean Prof (Dr.) Shashidhar Nanjundaiah and associate professor Dr. Rahul Dass conducted two separate technical sessions for 26 media professionals from Vietnam.
The Vietnamese media professionals were here in Hyderabad to participate in the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation training program on journalism and public relations. It was sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, and was being held at Dr. MCR HRD Institute of Telangana.
Prof Nanjundaiah took the first technical session on the theme ‘Forms of Journalistic media’. The Vietnamese delegates were vibrant, well-informed and eager-to-learn.
Most of their time was spent in understanding and interpreting ‘What we expect from the media’. The delegates pointed to the fuzzy nature of the media prosumer and inferred the distinction between a ‘socially contracted’ mass communicator and one that isn’t.
Dr. Dass highlighted the challenges the print media faced. He referred to the evolution of the print media in India and Vietnam and pointed out the important milestones.
The delegates brainstormed about the practical solutions, with special focus on how artificial intelligence can be harnessed to improve the efficiency of the newsroom workflow.
In the next session, the delegates did role play to better understand the challenges that come with setting up a new newspaper in this modern era
