Dr. Visalakshi Talakokula is an academician, researcher, and leader with over two decades of academic expertise and five years of industry experience. She currently serves as the Assistant Dean for Academics and Research & Development at the École Centrale School of Engineering, Mahindra University. In this role, she also leads the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), driving institutional excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Her areas of expertise encompass Structural Health Monitoring, Sustainable Construction Materials, Green Concrete, and Smart Structures. Dr. Talakokula’s teaching portfolio includes foundational and advanced topics such as Strength of Materials, Reinforced Concrete Design, Prestressed Concrete Structures, Piezoelectric Materials, and Smart Materials. Her experimental acumen includes advanced instrumentation like piezoelectric sensors, half-cell potential measurement, and Scanning Electron Microscopy, seamlessly integrating theoretical knowledge with practical applications.
Dr. Talakokula’s research focuses on pioneering sustainable and innovative solutions in civil engineering. She has published 37 journal articles, 45 conference papers, authored a book, and contributed to multiple book chapters. As a dedicated mentor, she has guided Ph.D. scholars and numerous postgraduate and undergraduate students, fostering the growth of future engineers and researchers. An innovator at heart, she holds two patents, including technologies for composite wall panels and piezoelectric-based smart washers for structural health monitoring.
Her leadership extends to spearheading major national and international research projects, including collaborations under the UKIERI initiative with the University of Bath, UK, and government-supported projects on modular rural housing and ultra-high-performance concrete systems. Dr. Talakokula is deeply committed to advancing civil engineering through her contributions to international research on chloride-induced reinforcement corrosion, carbonation of concrete, and sustainable materials as a technical member of multiple RILEM committees.
Dr. Talakokula holds prominent leadership positions in professional organizations, including Vice President (South) of the Indian Association of Structural Engineers (IAStructE), Governing Council Member of the Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) and Indian Building Congress (IBC), and a BIS member contributing to the National Building Code. She has also played a pivotal role in developing waterproofing guidelines for the Indian Concrete Institute.
Recognized with numerous accolades, her achievements include the Outstanding Paper Award by Materials and Structures Journal and several best paper and poster awards at prestigious national and international conferences. Her unwavering dedication to research, teaching, and sustainable innovation continues to position her as a thought leader, shaping the future of civil engineering through impactful solutions and global collaborations.
