Part-time Ph.D. Rules

Mahindra University will be accepting part-time Ph.D. applications for admissions starting in Fall 2023.

All rules applicable to full-time Ph.D. students like fee structure, and comprehensive examination will be applicable with the additional rules as follows:

  • With the application, a NOC from the employer has to be attached about allowing part-time Ph.D. registration of its employee(s). The NOC should also state the number of years of work experience in that company.
  • No TA work will be required by the part-time Ph.D. students
  • For MTech degree holder candidates, 12 credits of coursework with a minimum CGPA of 7.5 is mandatory; for MSc/MA degree holders, a minimum of 18 credits of coursework with a minimum CGPA of 7.5 is mandatory
  • The coursework for one semester will be offered either through a fractal or regular mode, which includes mandatory residency on campus. In addition, students have the option to take the remaining courses through online platforms such as Coursera, NPTEL, etc., or regular mode without the requirement of mandatory residency.
  • After completing the coursework, candidates will be required to spend a minimum of one week on the MU campus in each subsequent semester. This can be achieved through multiple visits, with a minimum duration of two days per visit.
  • The maximum duration of part-time registration will be 5 years with an extension of one more year if permitted on legitimate grounds by the VC.
