Mahindra University’s School of Design Innovation is a paradigm shift in design education focusing on collaborative innovation and foundation courses spread across all schools ranging from Engineering to Humanities. 

At its core, design innovation is an effective problem-solving method that blends creativity with strategic acumen. It empowers students to address intricate challenges by discerning user needs, crafting inventive solutions, and rigorously testing the concepts. This forward-thinking approach propels graduates to become catalysts for change, enabling them to devise groundbreaking products, services, and systems that tackle real-world issues across various industries. 

This program ignites the creative spark in future design professionals, nurturing their ability to translate innovative ideas into impactful products and services that shape the future. 

The master’s program in design Innovation is a 2-year program where students will work on problems from industry.  

The first two semesters are dedicated to Design foundation learning and the final year is the year marked for Design Innovation Thesis project.  The program will start form January 2025. 

The Ph.D. program is a practice-based program. Scholarly research is an important cornerstone that distinguishes professions from trade. Research and practice-oriented disciplines, like design, grow and remain relevant only if their professionals constantly contribute to and expand this body of knowledge. 

Our Doctor of Philosophy in Design Innovation invites design practitioners and teachers, aspiring design researchers and experienced professionals with a passion for design innovation to proactively engage and build a body of new knowledge. We encourage designers with 3 to 5 years of practical experience to validate and formalize theories, tools and techniques within the scholarly framework and work on live projects to come up with frameworks and methodologies for Innovation. The Ph.D. is practice based where the student must come up with an exhibition of their work and an exegesis for their Ph.D. dissertation. 

The commitment for our Ph.D. is long-term, requiring a minimum of 3 years of full time and 4 years for part time work. Apart from strong commitment, you require good analytical abilities, excellent language skills, tenacity, self-motivation, and open-mindedness, along with humility and a willingness to learn. 

The Ph.D. Program will start from August 15th, 2024.
